Johanna Spiri's novel "Heidi" is the most famous work of Swiss children's literature. The heroine of the novel, Heidi, is an orphan, lives with her grandfather and his playful goats in a village nestled in the Swiss Alps, where life is like a daily feast, and golden cheese grilled over a fire and fresh goat's milk are a royal treat. However, the girl is forced to say goodbye to the village in order to start a new life in Frankfurt. Today, Dörfling, where the events of the novel are described, is often called Heididorf, Heidi's village. Very little has changed in the mountain village: it looks almost the same as in the distant past, when Johanna Spiri wrote this cozy story.
