Ten-year-old Mary Lennox's parents fall victim to a cholera epidemic in India. The girl is transported to England, to Yorkshire, and placed in the care of her late aunt's husband. The luxurious but gloomy Yorkshire estate is full of closed doors, mysterious forbidden places and secrets that Mary discovers thanks to her restless nature and girlish curiosity.
